Absent Work Policy
The absent work policy is a school-wide policy, so you may be familiar with its workings from last year.
For each day a student is absent, s/he will receive that amount of days to make up their work: known as "Day for a Day." If this is not enough time for a student to make up their week (like for absences exceeding a week), the student needs to talk to the teacher(s) about a due date that will work. This re-established due date is the responsibility of the student.
Requesting Absent Work
For absences exceeding one day, you may call the middle school office to request homework be sent home. If this is the case, teachers will do their best to gather the homework by the time specified. If homework is sent home, we do except students to try their best to complete the work.
For absences of one day, it is not necessary to request homework.
Homework Hotline
If your student is absent, you may call the Homework Hotline at the main middle school number - 788-7945 - any time after 4:00 (a prompted message will assist you in reaching the hotline). This will list the homework given in each core class for that given day. You may also visit the main middle school website to access the Homework Hotline online
Pre-Excused Absences
If your family is taking an extended vacation, your student may bring a note to the office and pick up a Pre-Excused Absence Form. The student will bring the form to the teachers, and if possible, the teachers will assign work for the dates the student will be missing. Please understand that this is not always a possibility.
If students do receive work from a teacher(s), the work is expected to be completed upon return from the absence.
For absences of one day, a Pre-Excused Absence Form is unnecessary.
Late Work Policy
To earn full credit on an assignment, students must turn work in during class when the teachers asks for the work to be turned in. Any work turned in after this time will be given a late penalty. Each teacher will explain the late penalty for their class.
Each quarter will two have two "Zero Days" - mid-quarter and end of quarter. On these days, any late work that has not be turned in will be a permanent zero. Students will be made aware when these days are in advance.
