Green Bay Regional Tournament
Destination Imagination is a problem solving competition. Each team is made up of 5-7 children. The teams meet weekly to work out a solution to a long-term (tricky) problem starting in fall and ending in competition with other schools in the spring.
Each team needs a combination of children who are good in art, acting, at building things, at writing, and quick and creative thinking. Most importantly, we need children who can work as a team and commit to a long-term project. If a child joins a team and starts working on a project, then quits, he/she cannot be replaced, and the team will be short-handed. So make sure your child has time for this before he/she joins!
We need parent coaches at every grade level and judges and helpers to work at the competition. The number of teams we can have are limited by the number of coaches who volunteer. Each team also needs people who will volunteer at the competition. Coaches are not expected or permitted to solve the problems. They are just there to help the children work as a team, find supplies, and teach skills (such as how to hammer nails) that students may need to solve the problem. If two parents work together, it is easier for each. The teams will meet at the coaches’ convenience.
Each team needs to provide judges for the competition. Judges need no special qualifications except a love for children and creativity. They need to attend a one-day training session, and I will notify you of the date of that training as soon as possible.
I hope this will be an exciting opportunity for your child. If you have any questions, call me at 920-788-7950.
