The following skills may be observed in the normal language development of a five year old child:

• begins to express more feelings in words
• takes turns during playing and speaking
• has a speaking vocabulary of around 2,000-2,500 words
• begins to understand opposites
• uses sentences of 6-8 words
• may be able to define an object by its use
• uses future, present and past tense verbs
