Academic Standards At Freedom Schools

The District has adopted the Wisconsin Model Academic Standards in the four core areas of Math, Science, Social Studies, and English/Language Arts. Also referenced are the Wisconsin Model Academic Standards for all related arts areas including Music, Art, Physical Education, Health Education, Foreign Language, Family and Consumer Education Agriculture Education, Business Education and Technology Education. The Information and Technology Literacy Standards are being infused into all curricular areas. Beginning in the Fall of 1999, all Freedom Area School District teachers were asked to include the five following key elements into their lesson plans: Learning Expectations (objectives) Assessments Learning Activities Resources State Standards A template was designed, in both the Macintosh and PC format, to help teachers record their lesson plans in an organized format. The Freedom Area School District has adopted WIDS, the Wisconsin Instructional Design System as the standard curriculum format. WIDS is a computer software program for instructors which integrates theory and instructional practice into a practical model infusing core abilities, competencies, performance standards, learning objectives, learning activities, assessments, and standards. The District has initiated a standardized testing program. TerraNova, the CTB McGraw-Hill product along with WKCE was used. In the Fall of 2000, the District provided staff development for teachers which assisted them in interpreting the data compiled through the software database. Clarity Testmate Software was used to generate reports needed.

Build Your Own Curriculum

Beginning in the fall of 2008, we implemented Build Your Own Curriculum. This is a web-based program designed to meet the curriculum needs of students and parents. Students can look at the standards they're  expected to learn and master, see class activities and retrieve the resources they'll need to complete their work.  Parents have the opportunity to view curriculum, and standards from home, work or library - anywhere you can access the internet.  Parents can look at curriculum online and know what your students are learning each week.  Please click the link below to access the Freedom Area School District Online Curriculum.
